Container shortage in China in 2024
Throughout 2024, there was a shortage of empty containers, which contributed to rising shipping prices. However, by the end of the year, the situation had stabilized, and the number of available containers had increased significantly.
Stability of rental rates
Drop-off container rental rates in Russia, which were established in the last quarter of last year, remain unchanged.
Global economic slowdown
The economic downturn in 2024, including a reduction in consumption in Europe, has reduced overall demand for import-export operations. As a result, the number of rail shipments to Europe decreased, which led to an increase in the supply of routes to Russia. In addition, Chinese operators are forced to maintain the KPIs set by the government, which also affected supply growth.
Reducing the cost of transportation
An increase in the supply of railway routes has led to lower prices. This, in turn, put pressure on sea freight rates from China to Russian ports: they also went down.
Thus, the combination of these factors not only stabilized, but also restrained the growth of prices for container transportation.
